When we think of rest, typically we think about taking a nap, or trying to go to bed earlier that night. Whilst this is probably our primary source of rest, being physical, there are other ways that we can take care of ourselves.
Ever feel like you take your break, and come back feeling like you need a holiday? We’ve all felt like that at least once…
At Your Accounting Sanctuary we know how driven, motivated and forward-thinking business owners need to be at all times throughout the year. But it’s because we also know the toll that this can take if not managed well, we wanted to share 3 ways (aside from sleep) that you can start really resting and feeling better than ever.
Mental rest
Our minds are often racing at a million miles an hour, every day… When arriving at the office, it can be easy to slip into a stream of meetings, emails and tasks, feeling like there isn’t enough time in the day to get it all done. However, research has indicated that scheduling mini power moments for your brain to focus on something that is less demanding, can actually mean you are more productive when you resume working.
One method of implementing this, could be that for every hour, you take a 5 minute break. In that break, you might go and sit outside, grab a coffee or pull out an adult colouring book, anything that is mindless, simple and stress free. Schedule time each day to relax and preoccupy yourself with tasks that aren’t too arduous.
Social rest
Most would assume that this means making social plans… but it doesn’t. It means spending time with people who you can be yourself around. In most areas of life we have to uphold a reputation, be on our best behaviour and always be switched on. It’s important to spend time with close friends and family, where we can truly unwind, be honest and discuss life.
Creative rest
The good news is that you don’t have to be Monet to participate in this one, you just need to find things that you enjoy. Intentionally put time aside at least once a week for something that is outside your workplace. Perhaps you start visiting a new art gallery each week, a new cafe, library or shop. There is something important about trying new things, and visiting new spaces that allows us to break out of our normal routine.
It also allows us to be inspired outside the conventional spaces we tend to find ourselves in every day.
Start thinking about how you could implement some of these things into your weeks.
Invest your rest and wellbeing. It allows you to really show up in your life and in your business.
